My Usual Saturday Tour In Rome

2015-06-13 15.13.09

Since I started to write on my blog, I’ve been asked quite a while to write something about and post some pictures of my city. I did that already a couple of times, but strangely not as much as I thought I was going to do when I first started keeping my blog. Today though, I wanna do my duty as a supposedly travel blogger, who’s living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world (the most beautiful in my opinion, but I get you could think I might be biased). It’s today because once again someone asked me to post some pictures of my city. This time it happened to be my favorite New York Blogger, Lia (no offence to you other New Yorkers, I love you all but she happens to be half Italian, so…). So I thought it might be cool making a post out of my last Saturday visit to the city center to do shopping (I got a new pair of Nike Zoom Pegasus 32, which I intend to use to walk kilometers and kilometers this August during my next travel in the US).

The metro station of Colli Albani is located right below my mom’s apartment. The pines you see are everywhere in Rome, and I love how they shape our urban landscape.

First thing first, to get to the centre I need to take the metro. It’s about a 14 minute ride, 9 or 11 stops, depending on where I choose to get off. We just got 2 lines and I live very close to the Colli Albani stop. Saturday I got off at Flaminio, which is basically the stop closer to Piazza Del Popolo. While I was heading to the Nike Store, I decided it would have been worth to climb the Pincio hill to get the view. The result is the picture on my header.

The beginning of the climb to reach the Pincio, a corner of Canova which is the most famous bar in the square, and the Pincio terrace up in the background.

The Pincio is basically a hill that faces Piazza Del Popolo, and it’s just a little part of the most beautiful and biggest park in Rome, Villa Borghese.

Once I got down, I headed to the Nike Store, which is right in Via Del Corso. Then, since it was time for me for a snack, I decided to go for a cupcake in one of the sadly few American bakeries we have. To do that I needed to reach another part of the city center, closer to Piazza Navona. I didn’t pass across the square though, but I took a picture from outside.

After my cupcake and a coffee, I walked to get back to the metro station, which this time I took in Piazza Di Spagna, and that was pretty much it. I just need to add that while I was at it, I got inside two of the three churches that display Caravaggio paintings here in Rome. I mean, they were right on my route, so like every time I pass by, I entered to get a quick look. I hope you’ll enjoy my pictures, even though I think they’re not going to make you feel that sensation that still amazes me everytime I walk in Rome. That’s why I know I’m lucky.

I love this! I’m hoping to visit Rome in a year or two. Meanwhile, I’ll content myself with reading on it and looking at pictures. 🙂

Gianluca! What a nice surprise this morning to get a tour of la bella Roma! I’m so glad you posted these pics — and thanks for the mention, by the way! The pine trees are indeed so characteristic of Rome and the view from the Pincio terrace is breath-taking! Plus, yes an alley and a Vespa are indeed an integral part of the Roman urban landscape but one never grows tired of it!
Hope the cupcake was delicious and I’m sure that your Nike sneakers will be ready for your walking tour of the US!
Have a great start to your week and again, grazie di averci fatto vedere la tua bellissima citta’! Sei fortunato davvero!
    Un saluto da NYC,
    *Lia

You’re very welcome Lia! I’m glad you liked the pictures:) It really was a pleasure for me, like every time I’m around the city center. The only problem is that, no matter how hard I try, here in Rome is very complicated to find a good cupcake…whatever, It just means I’m going to have plenty this August in the US ;))

I enjoyed this post very much, thank you for taking us on this tour through your city! Unfortunately I’ve only made it to Napoli and that region so far even though I had Latin as my main subject in high school. The buildings in Rome are gorgeous! I love the somehow antique style, it’s so romantic. 🙂 you’re lucky to have grown up there 🙂

Hai fatto proprio bene a scrivere un post sulla tua città. Solitamente i blogger scrivono di mete lontane, certe volte ci dimentichiamo dei tesori che abbiamo sotto al naso 😉 BRAVO
